Choosing a Weir Size for a Savio Skimmer

Choosing a weir for the Savio Compact Skimmer

The Savio Compact Skimmer comes with two size weirs and is recommended for ponds up to 2,500 gallons in size.

Which weir to use depends on the gallons per hour of your pump.

  • For ponds using a pump of 500 gph to 1,800 gph the 6" weir is recommended.
  • For ponds using pumps that pump between 1,800 and 3,000 gph you should use the 8.5" weir.
  • The compact skimmer would not be recommended for pump sizes over 3,000 gph so even in ponds less than 2,500 total gallons use the full size skimmer if you will be using a pump size greater than 3000 gph.

NOTE: If you add an 18 watt UVInex UV, the MAXIMUM gallons per hours drops to 2,000 gph for effective elimination of green water.

Choosing a weir for the Savio Full Size Skimmer

With a full size skimmer you have three choices of weir size.

However, the 16" weir on the full size skimmer can be used with much less than 5000 gph as there is a lot of overlap what each weir size can do. If you are not sure which of two weir sizes to use, when in doubt, I would always recommend going with the larger of the two weir sizes you are considering.

  • The 6" weir on the full size skimmer is recommended for pumps moving 500 up to 2,500 gph.
  • The 8.5" weir is recommended for up to 5,000 gph.
  • The 16" weir is good for up to 8,500 gph.
