Here is a simple and complete filter kit. NOTE: This is NOT the premium professional equipment that Nate at Practical Garden Ponds recommends for a low maintenance highly satisfying outdoor pond. However, there are specific times and purposes when this is a wonderful economical solution to specific needs and situations.
If you are building a significant outdoor pond I really recommend a skimmer (especially the Savio or Crystal Ponds models I use and recommend), a high quality pump, and even a separate filtration system for ponds over 1000 gallons – see “Planning and Building Your Own Practical Garden Pond” under “Free Information” elsewhere on this website. In those situations this internal filtration usually requires too frequent of cleaning, up to your elbows in pond water retrieval and other inconveniences.
However there are situations in which this and similar filter kits are a great solution. First they are inexpensive and complete. For the person with a tight pond budget but lots of time and interest, willing to keep after the cleaning of this filter, it will circulate the water well, remove some large debris and add movement and oxygen to your pond.
This kit is especially useful for very small ponds, indoor ponds, short term ponds, and turtle tanks!
Kit includes the pump, a filter box and filter media, a bell and an adjustable sprinkling fountain head (1 each), tubing, and fittings. Just drop it in the pond and plug it in. (Nate’s tip – I have found that these filter boxes stay put better if you add a few flat stones inside the filter box beneath the mats).
This model 1350 is recommended for ponds up to 800 gallons (less for turtles), pumps 350 gph and pumps up to 10' high. Also available are the model 1250 which is recommended for ponds up to 600 gallons, pumps 250 gph and pumps up to 7' high, the model 1500 which is recommended for ponds up to 1000 gallons, pumps 500 gph and pumps up to 10' high, the model 1700 which is recommended for ponds up to 1250 gallons, pumps 700 gph and pumps up to 10' high, the model 2950 which is recommended for ponds up to 2000 gallons, pumps 950 gph and pumps up to 10' high.
